How To Beat Credit Card Scammers
We will all more than likely fall into the net of a scammer
at some point. Our credit cards are, however, becoming more and more protected
everyday. But there are people who are still determined to get our information
and steal from us. There are simple steps we can take to avoid this
problem--simple and effective steps to help you protect your credit card from
scammers. But even being cautious can still land you in trouble. Being smart
today is not enough to stop the fraudsters. One best and most obvious
ways to prevent credit card fraud is to keep your credit cards safe. Most fraud
will occur when someone gets hold of your information and then goes on a long
and expensive shopping spree. The first step you should take is to
carry your cards separately from
you wallet; keep them in a zippered compartment, like a business card
holder or other small pouch. You should also keep a record of your
account numbers, their expiration dates, and the phone number of your credit
card company--but keep this information in a secure place.
To stop any
suspicious charges being made to your card at say a restaurant, always keep an
eye on your card during the transaction, and make sure to retrieve the card as
quickly as possible. One recent major credit card fraud is what called card
skimming." Skimming is the process of copying one persons
information on the magnetic strip of one card onto another card--most likely a
card that is on the other side of the world.
Save any receipts you get
and always compare them with your billing statements. If you do see a
suspicious credit card statement, then call your credit card company straight
away and cancel your cards. I also suggest you shred all your credit
card receipts and any other documents that contains personal information. That
small bit of information is all somebody needs to reproduce a replica card.
There is also the matter of your PIN number; if anyone else gets hold of your
PIN number, then you are in big trouble; NEVER give your PIN number to
anyone--only you are meant to know your PIN number. You should also
always notify your credit card company in advance if you are going to be
changing your address. These may seem like very simple techniques to
follow. But if you do follow the advice, the chances of your getting caught by
a credit card scam are going to drop drastically. Your credit card is one of
your most valuable financial tools and all your information stored on there can
be a windfall for any scammer that is waiting to catch you. But if you are
smart and sensible, then you can beat the scammers and protect yourself from
credit card fraud.
